Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

GROIC Day 28

As I have worked on consolidating the contents of my filing cabinets, I have come across yet more pieces of paper that are out-of-date or irrelevant. So, day 28 repeats an earlier approach with another box of redundant paper. In terms of explaining its allocation to day 28, this requires some more “peculiar accounting”. I […]

GROIC Day 27

As this challenge has progressed I have had a few sets of things in mind that I would be able to use on various days. However, until recently it hadn’t occurred to me to check out the far end of the wardrobe, a place I rarely venture, although I thought that most of what was […]

GROIC Day 26

Today’s collection of 26+ items is rubbishy junky mostly dead odds and ends from sorting out various categories of stuff (well, THAT description was SUCH a model of clarity and precision!). There were various marker and whiteout pens that were used and used up at Jamboree, a dilapidated toiletries bag, some old muesli bars (which, […]

GROIC Day 25

Things are a bit hectic at the moment as I need to get a few days ahead and I need to make sure I have the right numbers (or excesses) of things for the remainder of the month. Tonight I surprised myself with an epic effort, but you’ll have to wait until the day after tomorrow […]

Moods of the Mountain #19

It’s Hobart Show Day today, which usually means wet and blustery conditions. Not only did we get damp and windy, but we also had a dumping of snow on the mountain. This photo was taken in the afternoon when the worst of the rainy cold fronts had passed. You can just make out the remaining snow […]

Hidden coastal gem

Today was a public holiday in Hobart, and despite the inclement weather and a pile of urgent work I took my parents for a drive to the east coast south of Orford. It was still windy and cold, but we avoided the rainy cold fronts that were hitting Hobart (see today’s Moods of the Mountain post). […]

GROIC Day 24

Yesterday’s printer was going to be taken to an electronics recycling pick-up point, and it made sense to get rid of some other electronic/electrical bits and pieces at the same time. So today I threw out my 25 year old stereo, which has been sitting in the garage for nearly two years. It still works (by […]

GROIC Day 23

One broken printer (not as old as I would have liked it to be before it suffered a cheaper-to-buy-a-new-one-than-try-to-fix-it glitch), and over 22 issues of the daily newspaper produced on three past Jamborees (2004, 2007 and 2010 … I must have decided not to even bother collecting the 2013 ones). The printer has gone to electronic […]

GROIC Day 22

Some 28 years ago I spent the princely sum of $345 (I found the receipt in my clean up!) on a Fairydown Altimate II tent, which, while not quite as good as the famous-even-then Macpac Olympus that I kind of coveted, was still a pretty good tent. It went on quite a few bushwalks and camps […]

GROIC Day 21

As I have made my way through various crates of memorabilia and stuff, I have set aside a few things that might be okay to send to an op shop (sometimes it’s hard to judge what people might be interested in reusing). So, the pile on the left comprises over 21 items of varying value/usefulness that […]
