Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Altona night caching run

You may recall that my silly To Do List had, as a low priority (but still very important) item, “reward self with a caching run”. Since I had completed all of the items on the silly list I contacted my friend May about heading out in the evening (I’m not sure how her To Do List […]

The perils of flying

In my previous blog entry you may have noticed that my To Do list mentioned the task “Try on lots of old socks”, a task which I have completed … although you also may have noticed that I haven’t yet completed “Throw out old socks”.

I’ve been doing some spring cleaning (yes, I know it is summer), […]

Very expensive To Do list

I have succumbed to the allure of a shiny new toy.

There was a degree of inevitability about it. My PDA (the one that survived a near death drowning experience) is about to reach its sixth birthday and, although it has served me faithfully (despite all the abuse), recent changes in my work computing environment have meant […]

And what happens next?

In the past few weeks I have been focused on getting to the 22 January: returning from the UK, going to Tassie for Christmas, surviving a fortnight or so of Scout Jamboree, and then helping out with a summer school that we only found out we’d be doing less than two months ago.

Well, I’ve made it.

As […]

And now to catch up on some sleep

[I think I have now fixed WordPress’s picture uploading issues. I hope it will behave from now on.]

The 13-day Australian Scout Jamboree is over, I’m home and I am looking forward to catching up on sleep … lots of sleep!

I am also experiencing post-camp vocal bassification, in which I acquire a few extra notes in the […]

12 of 12, January 2010

One of the disconcerting things about being at a two-week Scout camp like Jamboree is that you lose track of which day it is. I had intended to do “12 of 12” while on Jamboree but then completely forgot about it. Fortunately, when I came to look back through the photos I took, I realised that […]

The joys of Jamboree

Showers at odd times of the day (if you can find time to have one at all)
Trying to figure out how to cook 5kg of pasta in one pot (supposedly requiring 50 litres of water)
Kids coming back all covered in red dye with smiling faces
2oom walk to the loos
Deciding  not to eat the potentially “off” chops
Watching […]

Everything takes longer

Even when you think you have allowed time, even when you think everything is under control, even when you think that your “systems” are working just how you want them, SOMETHING inevitably happens.

This blog post — about the fact that it has taken me far too long to get organised for Jamboree and that my head […]
