Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Tamar Islands

I had a most-of-the-day meeting in Launceston today, and afterwards felt the need for a walk. I had the freedom to go a little further afield (as I was not tied down to the uni car) and so headed downriver to the north to the wetlands walk out to the Tamar Islands. There was lots of […]

Midlands 2015-#11N

Time for another trip northward, this time on my own and with a few minutes up my sleeve. I was able to stop and take a slightly less blurry photo of the row of trees from 11 days ago, and then a few kilometres later the light and placement were right for something I’ve been wanting […]

Moods of the Mountain #67

A fortnight after the biggest Hobart snowfall in 30 years there was another big fall. While not quite as extensive as the earlier fall it still closed a few schools and whitened the foothills. This is what the mountain looked like from my place just before I left for work at 7:45am.

The full “Moods of the […]

Delightfully Snug Falls

It’s been far too long. My last visit to Snug Falls was way back at the end of 2006, but it has always been one of my favourite waterfalls (which makes it pretty awesome in my scheme of favourites, since I hold waterfalls in general to be some of the best things on the planet). We […]

12 of 12, August 2015

I remembered to take photos this month. Yay. Most of the day was taken up with an all-day professional learning session for teachers on algebra and it finished up with Scouts and then dinner. In short, it was a rather miscellaneous sort of day and the photos reflect that.

It did, however, begin with a lovely sunrise, […]

Midlands 2015-#10N

I have a few trips northward during August; these are late afternoon shots as I headed to Launceston to run another day of professional learning for teachers. The first pair are from the “Mood Food” petrol station just north of Kempton; the final photo was taken from the car (I wasn’t driving) somewhere around Woodbury and […]

Moods of the Mountain #66

It has been a chilly week in Hobart (even though I haven’t been around for much of it). I missed the excitement of Monday’s big snow dump because I was in Launceston, and I arrived back too late on Tuesday evening to get any really good shots (although there were some spectacular views of the whitened […]

Midlands 2015-#9N

I had two trips northward this week, but today’s went “only” as far as Campbell Town where I was running a professional learning session for teachers. There was lovely early morning and late afternoon winter light on the way up and back, but my driver and I didn’t stop for photos, instead taking this shot of […]

Midlands 2015-#8N

With a huge snow dump forecast for most of the state, including the midlands, I decided to leave for Launceston a day early, and thus avoided all the excitement and spectacular photos. Instead I got up early the following morning and went for a walk on the somewhat icy river-side path up to the Gorge and […]
