Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Moods of the Mountain #32

Three moods in this blog post, from three different days at the end of April.

Late April sunset, with jet trail (a very wide angle view, since the sun has moved northward for winter, making it harder to frame the mountain and the location of sun-down).

Hints that winter is on its way, with a light dusting of […]

Good Friday drive

So far, this year has been ridiculously overcommitted, and so I have been looking forward to the Easter break to catch my breath just a little. All of my trips up and down the Midlands Highway have reminded me of different destinations, hinted at by signposts and memories of trips in my distant past, but until […]

Midlands #2014-5S

I had company for today’s trip to Launceston, which meant that I didn’t have to drive all the way. Unfortunately I was driving on the way up, when there were some fantastic light and mist effects. On the way back the scenery wasn’t quite so dramatic but, because I wasn’t driving, I could take shots through […]

Moods of the Mountain #31

After last night’s lunar eclipse — implying that it’s the time of a full moon — I was not surprised to wake and see the full moon setting over the mountain in the warm glow of sunrise. Pretty impressive.

Midlands #2014-4NS

The first trip northwards for this week actually went further afield than the midlands, as I had to go to Penguin to run a day of professional learning for some maths teachers. The first two photos were taken yesterday on the way up, while the final one is in the midlands, on my way back this […]

12 of 12, April 2014

This weekend I attended the District’s annual competition camp, held at a farming property about half an hour from our Scout hall. We just had one small patrol competing (lots of conflicting events this weekend) but they made a good team and came equal second.

It’s been interesting over the past couple of years comparing the differences […]

Moods of the Mountain #30

With the end of daylight savings it is nice to be able to wake to sunshine instead of darkness, at least for a few more weeks. I am missing the light in the evenings though.

The full “Moods of the Mountain” collection can be […]
