I still enjoy bushwalking and think wistfully of trips I need to make before I get too geriatric. Back in the early 2000s I used to purchase Wild magazine, in order to drool over new gear and exotic locations.
The trouble was that I bought good gear* … and so there was no point in looking at the latest state of the art this-that-or-the-other when I still had a perfectly functional doohickey-thingo.
And the other trouble was that life got in the way of planning some of the more exotic trips … and so eventually I stopped getting the issues. However, they filled a corner of a bookshelf for a while and moved back to Tassie …
but now they are going on an expedition of their own.
These issues are from the seven years from 1999 to 2005, and although there are more than seven actual issues, this is my justification for why these are being thrown out on day 7.
* or had it bought for me: my parents gave me a Macpac Cascade pack for my 21st birthday and it’s still going strong.
