Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Southerly Scout camp

As the previous post hinted, I had Scouting activities over the weekend. There were just the two kids with us on Friday night and Saturday morning (the remainder had sporting commitments), which meant that it was easy to head off for our hike to Tunnel Bay. The first four photos below show aspects of this trip, including the sea cave and the rocky beach, as well as the rugged coastline.

On Saturday afternoon, once everyone arrived at the campsite (a property belonging to the dad of one of the kids) we got fires going (with flints) and baked ourselves a nice roast dinner, followed by baked apples in foil and custard. Fun and games were had in the evening, with various wide games like spotlight and kick-the-can. I was pleased to find that my skulking skills have not entirely deserted me with age, despite my body’s increasing decrepitude … although I did manage to get myself embarrassingly disoriented in one round!

The next day we explored the area, enjoying a meander around the peninsula before the rain set in with a vengeance. Despite the inclement weather some of the kids still went kayaking, but of course the down side was a large pile of wet gear that is now draped all over the boat room at the hall.
