Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Another Waterworks 50th

My Aunty Mari and Uncle David (my Mum’s sister and brother-in-law) celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this week, and had a gathering of friends and family at the Waterworks. The weather was cool but good for winter (and certainly better than the forecast), and a very enjoyable time was had by all. Most of my people photos weren’t very good, but, for the record, here are my aunt and uncle, followed by not exactly the bestest photo of my parents who were much happier than this photo makes them appear!

The Waterworks reserve was lovely in the winter sun and there were some nice light effects through the trees and on the surrounding features.

The kookaburras, which had been cute visitors on the occasion of my parents’ 50th anniversary at the same location, rather pushed the friendship this time: one of them swooped down and stole a sausage straight out of my mother’s hand and, on pulling up vertically to make a hasty escape, managed to scratch my dad’s face with its talons. They look quite innocent here, but, no, they are thieves and assailants!bIMG_7495
