When I moved from Melbourne nearly two years ago there were some last minute things that needed to stay unpacked or which arrived after I’d packed. These were collected into a shoebox, which came with me in the car when I crossed Bass Strait on the ferry.
And then, in the midst of all the unpacking a few more things arrived or appeared that I knew would need to be sorted out once I finished settling in, and so I added them to the shoebox …
And then a few more things came later which kind of belonged with the things in the shoebox and so they got stacked on top of the shoebox …
And then 22 months passed, during which time the shoebox managed to disappear under the bed. This was because making the room tidy on one occasion or another was most quickly achieved by hiding the box rather than actually going through the box and sorting everything out.
And then this week the GROIC reminded me of the existence of the box. As a consequence I dragged it out and did a preliminary sort: separating the “keeps” from the “get rid ofs”. There are more than 16 things here, but I couldn’t be bothered counting them to find out which was the “correct” GROIC day for which to nominate them. Like the things in quite a few other piles of stuff previously nominated, I’m just glad that I’ve finally dealt with them.
(And I promise that I will file the “keeps” this weekend.)
