As I mentioned at the start of the 100 poems challenge, it was Lee Sargent whose 100 days drawing challenge provoked the whole poetry-writing exercise. I followed his artwork picture by picture as he pursued the challenge — he was about three weeks ahead of my own journey, which meant I had to try to avoid allowing Lee’s approach to the themes influencing my own — and you can see his complete collection here. At the end he reflected on his own favourites, and, after I’d provided a few comments about some of the ones I’d particularly liked, he asked me to pick a favourite. I’d liked many of his, for a variety of reasons (he has a knack for capturing mood in a deceptively simple way), but I particularly loved the one he did for “Fairy Tale” (which is theme 61) … and he was kind enough to offer me the original, which arrived yesterday. His choice of fairy tale matched my take on “Love” (theme 2), which is why I’ve now included a copy of his artwork back there as well as here. The original looks even better than this, as my scanner has not done justice to the watercolour texture, and the actual colours are simultaneously more muted and intense (contradictory, I know, but I can’t explain it any better; at the very least you need to know that the original greens aren’t quite so yellow).
I’m sure those of you who know the movie will love Lee’s interpretation.
I’m very happy that you like it! Scanners can be uncooperative little blighters!
Big Smile 🙂
