Sometimes the Mountain’s moods affect Hobart: today’s photo shows why it was decidedly cold this morning. In fact, there has been snow on the Mountain for much of the week, but I’ve been leaving too early and getting home too late to catch a view from the balcony in daylight (and there’s been cloud from low-flying cold fronts obscuring the view on occasions as well). Yesterday I finally had a chance to get a shot for a “Mountain Moods” photo that would show this week’s snow, but much of it had melted and so it was all but invisible at this distance. Last night, however, a nice big fresh load was delivered, thus making it possible to convince you all of its snowy state.
The resultant wintry temperatures have been a bit of a shock to the system. Some of my northern hemisphere friends will be thinking me totally wussy, since the daytime temperatures have only fallen as low as 9°C, but it’s been a bit bone-chilling at times. It even had me contemplating a return to Melbourne … until a check of the weather reports indicated that Melbourne was suffering similar shivers, with flooding rains to boot.
