I would like to apologise to my neighbours (should they have happened to be home at 2:30pm today).
I had reached the “I am heartily sick of marking” stage (actually I had reached this several years ago, but it’s a recurring theme that rears its ugly head on a regular basis), and when I glanced across at my piano a comment from my “15 albums” blog entry popped into my head. The poor piano has been touched but rarely since I returned from overseas 9 months ago, and the albums that I have in print music form have had a very quiet time of it of late. And the marking was driving me nuts.
I needed to play something. Loud.
Very loud.
So I reached for my Sky 2 CD, put it in the player, and then had a moment of panic when I couldn’t find the print music (it hasn’t been played in at least 2 years and I’d put it in an unusual spot). At last I found it, turned to Scipio, cued the CD and just went for it.
My fingers were very rusty (I haven’t played anything fast or tricky for quite some time), and so there were more than the usual number of wrong notes, but it didn’t matter. The piano was shaking, my foot was stomping, and I was having a great time playing in my own private instrumental rock concert, accompanied by screeching electric guitars, thumping bass, and pounding drums. Twelve minutes of sheer unadulterated house-rocking, barn-storming, head-banging (not quite) joyful noise.
I have absolutely no idea if the doorbell rang during this time.
Unfortunately the assignments were still there when I finished … although I discovered a large wad of extraneous papers caught up amongst the assignments which halved the size of the marking pile.
All riiiiiight!!!
Ooh yeah! Love it… esp the bit about having no idea if the door bell rang during that 12 minutes 🙂
Chicky, you are such a head-banger! 🙂
So, that’s what shook the snow off Mt. Wellington!
sounds like the most fun you’ve had marking in a long time! 🙂
