Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Bad pun 7: Integrating Differentiated Instruction

I have just seen something about “Integrating Differentiated Instruction”.  Given the inverse relationship between integration and differentiation, surely “Integrating Differentiated Instruction” is just “Instruction + c”?

(This is one of those puns for which the size of an appreciative audience is likely to be rather small*. It may even be less than 2.)

Today was not particularly interesting, nor could I get inspired about doing something photographically creative or fun.

I did, however, have slightly sore feet as a legacy of some bushwalking last week. This got me thinking about footwear, and as a consequence I took photos of several pairs of my shoes and recorded their stories. Thus it […]

SW trip, Days 4 and 5

Our plan for day 4 was to return partway to Melaleuca and then take the southeasterly option to visit the beach at Cox Bight. I’m going to have to go back to see what this is like, because not long after we left New Harbour we were having to don our rain jackets in the face […]

SW trip, Day 3

We were all up, breakfasted and ready to go at 8am, as the whole group of us had decided to retrace yesterday’s journey across to Hidden Bay. Despite being familiar with the route we really weren’t all that much quicker, but it’s a route with lots of variety: rainforest up, ridge top open walking, rainforest down, […]

SW trip, Day 2

We had a leisurely start to the day but around 10am some of us set off to go further west. We were treated to the sight of a seal on the beach having a rest before we managed to find the westward track at the end of the beach.

We left the beach and headed very steadily […]

SW trip, Day 1

As you may recall, last year I hiked in NZ with a wonderful collection of friends and friends of friends. This year, Ann-the-awesome-hike-organiser-and-hub-of-the-friends decided that my own home state would be their destination. In an unfortunate poor alignment of work responsibilities and no spare leave days, I wasn’t able to attend the whole event, despite being […]
