We had a leisurely start to the day but around 10am some of us set off to go further west. We were treated to the sight of a seal on the beach having a rest before we managed to find the westward track at the end of the beach.
We left the beach and headed very steadily upwards through rainforest before emerging onto low scrub up on the ridge where we had good views back over the bay. The track then sidled up and over the inland end of the long headland before dropping downwards through more rainforest and then emerging on the side of another button grass plain where the track did a roller coaster ridge run over two or three small hills (and where we had a close encounter with a big snake on the track).
Later than expected we came out on the dune at Hidden Bay. This is a lovely spot, with quartz boulders, and craggy outcrops, and cliff faces with trigger plants growing on them, and a small waterfall tumbling onto the beach, and some small sea caves. I took lots of photos and we enjoyed lunch at the eastern end, and a couple of the men braved the cool water for a brief swim. It was too late to continue any further westward so we made our way back (with some stronger winds to contend with at times).
Back at New Harbour Bay I cooked cheesecake for dessert (which was well-received later in the evening) and did my main meal and cleaning up. It was a relaxing evening, and although mains had been cooked at various times and places we all sat together in a little dining area in our campground for dessert and enjoyed the company.
