Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

12 of 12, April 2019

A long day, which began with me having to reassemble my prepacked-ready-for-Scout-camp bag, which had become disassembled after Jamboree and Regatta. It was a rush job, and so it still isn’t quite in the state I used to keep it.

I went to work. It was a lovely day outside … and so I took some photos […]

12 of 12, July 2018

This particular conference, occurring every four years, seems to be very consistent with its dates, since I have a “12 of 12” record dating from Flagstaff, Arizona in 2014 and from Ljulbljana, Slovenia in 2010 (which, scarily, also indicates that I have been “12 of 12”-ing for over 8 years!). Today was a routine conference day, and […]

Midlands 2018-#2N

After that lovely sunrise I headed to Campbell Town to run the year’s second session of professional learning. Again, I had neglected to interrupt my chauffeured drive to take a photo en route, but on arrival I was bemused by this cat lurking underneath the […]

Midlands 2018-#1N

I had been engaged by the Department of Education to run some more state-wide professional learning for maths teachers this year, but the program was delayed due to my health situation. Finally, in May, we had the first session. As I was chauffeured by the organiser, it wasn’t until we got to Launceston that I took […]

12 of 12, November 2017 (and Midlands 2017-#6N)

After a busy morning and early afternoon, in which there were things of interest but my mind was a bit too preoccupied for taking photos, I headed northwards with a work colleague/friend of mine for meetings that we have over the next couple of days. Today was one of those bright spring days, and the extended […]

Midlands 2017-#5S

There were some rather spectacular cloud formations as I headed back from a work trip to Launceston today. I stopped at Perth to get a […]

Midlands 2017-#4S

It’s felt a bit strange having so few trips northward this year, after the many visits of last year and the year before. Yesterday I headed up to give a talk for the maths association, and this morning I visited with one of my PhD students.

I’ve been wanting to take a shot like these two for […]

Midlands 2017-#3S

I had a passenger in the car for this week’s overnight trip to Launceston for a meeting, and that always makes me a little more reluctant to stop for a photo (even though this particular passenger knows about my Midlands-photographic habits). On the way back, however, we stopped just on sunset and I took a photo […]

Midlands 2017-#2S

This year is proving to have very few trips northward for work; here it is June, and this is only the second Midlands photo entry. I had a day trip to Launceston today, to meet with one of my PhD students and, later, one of my work colleagues. On the northward leg I was running late, […]

Midlands 2017-#1S

I am, of course, back at work after my Big Trip (which, at the time of present writing, I still haven’t finished blogging about). I don’t anticipate quite as many work-related trips up and down the Midlands Highway this year in comparison to last year, but there’ll still be some and today was the first. Unfortunately, […]
