“Deep Thought”, the computer in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy that comes up with the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything (42, for those of you who have been asleep for the last 30 years or who were born after 1990), was reported to have been so smart that it went from “I think, therefore I am” to deducing the existence of rice pudding and income tax before anyone had a chance to turn it off.
Income tax. I must get around to doing that. Preferably before I leave Tassie next week.
I can’t believe how quickly my time here has flown. It’s been good to have time to think and do some writing and consolidating of ideas for work (I presented a seminar this afternoon), it’s been nice to spend time with family, it’s been fun catching up with friends and places from my past, and it’s been easy not to think about doing my tax return. In fact, with so few days remaining—and a desire to do more writing, thinking, family time, and catching up with people and sights—I’m not really in the mood for tax tedium.
Can I have rice pudding instead?
Having spent 20 years doing nothing about tax returns except sign my name at the end of one, it was a rude shock to suddenly be responsible for them myself – and I used to get myself into a real stew about it. So now I take it to a Little Man. It’s money for jam for him but I’ve stopped worrying and learned to love the tax cheque. I recommend it!
