Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

12 of 12, June 2016

Today’s collection was shaping up to be a miscellaneous hodge-podge, symptomatic of my miscellaneous hodge-podgy life, but, following a demanding but largely sedentary week, I decided I needed to go for a walk this afternoon. I was going to do Risdon Brook Dam but by the time I started heading there things were looking tight for getting the 4.5km done in the 45 minutes before closing time, and so I detoured to walk around to Shag Bay instead. This turned out to be an ineffective exercise session because I stopped to take quite a few photos, but rejuvenation is not only about the physical exertion. Here are my chosen 12 shots.

The early part of the path goes through the allocasuarinas before opening out into a more coastal sclerophyll on the point above Bedlam Walls.

The area has become quite popular with mountain bikers. It is also a little damp after all our recent rain.

Shag Bay itself is a narrow inlet about 100m wide with a view across the Derwent to Mt Wellington.

The detritus of an old bone-mill/fertiliser plant is scattered along the foreshore, with a couple of big rusty boilers and other bits and pieces providing a nice opportunity for some photographs.bIMG_7595

On my return journey I caught the setting sun through the trees, a view of the Tasman Bridge, and a silhouette of trees and grasses.

(The “12 of 12” project involves taking 12 photos on the 12th of the month. This provides the opportunity to get snapshots of different aspects of your life. I have been doing this since 2009.)
