Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

93. Give Up [100 poems challenge]

93.          Give Up

I’ve struggled, been slow,
But pressed on somehow;
With just eight to go
I can’t give up now.

28 July 2013

Comments: [ALERT: Temporal confusion abounds in the following account, which was written on July 28 and then modified five days later at the time of publication. I have edited it so that it makes sense for the day of publication (August 2).] I didn’t actually manage to get the 100 poems done in 100 days, as I lost some of my buffer and, at the time of writing the poem above (the 93rd in the collection), “tomorrow” (which was the 29th July) marked the 100th day after writing the first. On the night of writing “Give Up” I didn’t think it would do the challenge justice if I tried to write all of the remaining poems on the last night, even assuming I could (and I know now that I couldn’t have). I think, however, that I’ll manage to publish 100 in 100 days … and 97*— which is what I actually managed by the end of July 29) in 100 days is a fair effort, I think. On occasions, however, it has been a bit of a struggle to find the time and inspiration to keep pushing on. I haven’t been as adventurous with some of the poetic forms as I thought I might try to be (just because it would have required more time and energy than I had) … and there have been times when I have felt I might have been better off drawing (which was the creative outlet intended in the challenge as originally set)! Today I have only 3 left to write and I know what I’m going to do with two of them (although how easy it will be to achieve that is another matter!).

* There have been three bonus poems, there are still two to be published that made it by the July 29 deadline, and one of the poems used in the collection was written long before this project started and so doesn’t count.

Themes to come: 94. Last Hope; 95. Advertisement; 96. In the Storm; 97. Safety First; 98. Puzzle
