36. Precious Treasure
A box full of trinkets
Heirlooms and heritage
Held in the hands
Of grandmothers
And beyond.
Handed down,
Inherited,
Held by me
In the here and now.
But their stories are gone,
Forgotten and lost;
The tales and echoes
Faded and mute.
I long to know,
To remember,
To match
A name and an object,
To restore value
To this uncertain collection,
The past diminished
In an ignorant present.
