Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Happy Christmas 2014

I’m not entirely sure what happened to November or the first two-thirds of December, but here it is, December 21, and I’m not at all ready for the end of the year let alone 2015.

[RST] Faith, Hope and Charity at Christmas

At this Christmas time I’ve been reflecting on the key characters in the Christmas story, and how faith, hope and charity are central to their actions and motivations.

Moods of the Mountain #51

Dusk after sunset (yeah, I know: when else is dusk?!). I think I probably missed the best of the sunset, and I can’t remember if the colours were like this to the eye, as opposed to just being an artefact of the camera’s settings.

The full Moods of the Mountain collection […]

12 of 12, December 2014

It has been a busy year and in the last few days it has caught up with me: I have come down with a cold and I’m definitely showing more than my usual signs of weariness. Yesterday I felt particularly “ordinary” and then the bed and the heating/cooling in the hotel room didn’t seem conducive to […]

Midlands #2014-16NS

I had an overnight trip to Launceston this week, but with some complications that — fortunately — meant that I didn’t have to drive for any of it (I’m a bit run down at the end of the year, and it might not have been a good idea to be at the wheel of a car […]

Cycling and walking in the mist

December is probably too busy a time of year for Scout hikes, which may explain the low numbers for our cycling and walking trip to Wellington Falls, but neither this, nor the less than clement weather, prevented us from having an enjoyable day of it. We cycled along the Pipeline Track from Neika, with the irrepressible […]
