South-West Hike, Day 3

On day 3, New Harbour was still our base and again we headed west. The whole gang headed to HIdden Bay
(the second visit for yesterday's party), and then some of us continued further west over yet another range (well,
up and around and along) until we overlooked Ketchem Bay. On our return to New Harbour the evening light
was ideal for messing around taking photographs.

\

Crepuscular rays over New Harbour. (Isn't "crepuscular rays" a cool term?!)

Up on the range between Hidden Bay and Ketchem Bay, looking
out towards the Maatsuyker group of islands.

View of Ketchem Bay (we didn't follow the track all the way down,
because its steepness didn't augur well for the journey back out!)

Another view of the coast from the ridge on our return journey. The
track made its twisty undulating way over smaller ridges and up narrow
valleys, and took much longer to walk than the distance suggested.

ˆTrack along the ridge. You can't see the howling wind that we battled.

Creek at Hidden Bay looking out to sea.

Gleichenia (one of my favourite ferns) -- and this time its glorious
mathematicalness is obvious as its 120° bifurcations actually create hexagons.

Low rainbow over the eastern end of New Harbour.

Stormy light over the lagoon at New Harbour.

Breaking waves, late afternoon sun and storm clouds at New Harbour.

Sunlit ripples refracting onto the sandy bottom of the lagoon.

Setting sun over New Harbour.

And a photo of the photographer, taken by Roz Hart, showing my poise, balance,
sartorial splendour, muddy legs, oversized pack, and nearly useless gaiters.

Photos taken by Helen Chick (except the last, by Roz Hart). (c) 2013.
