Moods of the Mountain

The rules: Photos of Mount Wellington taken from my balcony.

There are plenty of other places I can and will take photos of the mountain, but they will appear elsewhere. These ones have to be taken from home. They pretty much appear in reverse chronological order (so the one at the top is usually the most recent). Some of them are not particularly good photos, but the idea is that they capture the many and varied moods displayed by the mountain.

28 August 2014 at 7:25am. I call this one "A hazier shade of pale".

12 August 2014. A cool winter morning with mist draped over the summit. The top
photo was taken at 7am, and the second was taken an hour later.
I love the colour changes at sunrise.

]10 August 2014. Cold fronts drifted across the mountain for much of the day, culminating
in a big dumping of snow late in the afternoon (not shown). The first of these shots
(all misty and with an invisibile mountain) was taken at 8am, with the second one
taken just before 2pm. I thought it was fine enough to go for an afternoon walk around
nearby Risdon Brook Dam, only to have another front come all the way
across and rain on me.

]3 August 2014. Sunrise glow above the snowy mountain.

1 August 2014. A very snowy mountain after a very wintry week.

9 July 2014. Sunrise (7:45am) on a mild winter morning.

10 June 2014. A cold winter morning. These three shots show the Bridgewater Jerry
drifting down river at sunrise, taken about 6 minutes apart (earliest is first).

27 May 2014. This was taken at the same time as the photo taken two days
earlier (shown below), but the weather was rather different.

25 May 2014. The advantage of winter sunrises is that they are not too
early in the day. This was taken at 7:40am.

8 May 2014. Late dusk after a crystal clear autumn day. There was a glorious aurora after this,
which I didn't get to see (not that I'm likely to see it from my balcony anyway).

28 April 2014. Another morning with the mountain basking in the sunrise.

26 April 2014. After being shrouded in bleakness the clouds break up to reveal
an early winter dusting of snow.

23 April 2014. Sunset with jet-trail. Note how the sun has moved north for winter
compared with, say, the Christmas day photo.

16 April 2014. Moonset at sunrise.

10 April 2014. It's nice to have the sun back in the morning with the end of daylight saving.

22 March 2014. Rainclouds looking ominous.

20 February 2014. 7:30am: Morning mountain with a cloudy toupee.

12 January 2014. 8:15pm: Late evening sun and haze.

Taken with the little camera with its 20x zoom set to maximum.

5 January 2014. 5pm: Rain-clagged* mountain.

(*I take "clag" to mean thick, sticky, all-surrounding cloud. Dad used it a bit when I
was growing up, but although Wiktionary acknowledges "cloud" as one of "clag's"
possible meanings, it appears to be a rare usage.)
