Moods of the Mountain

The rules: Photos of Mount Wellington taken from my balcony.

There are plenty of other places I can and will take photos of the mountain, but they will appear elsewhere. These ones have to be taken from home. They pretty much appear in reverse chronological order (so the one at the top is usually the most recent). Some of them are not particularly good photos, but the idea is that they capture the many and varied moods displayed by the mountain.

11 November 2012. 6:50am on a glorious spring day, about an hour after sunrise.

\10 November 2012. Late afternoon light.

10 November 2012. Same day, about an hour later.

2 November 2012. Early morning rainbow (7 am).

29 October 2012. Late afternoon cloud effects.

21 October 2012. Soft clouds caressing the summit.

8 October 2012. Showers and light effects.

29 September 2012. New snowfall, with wintry clouds.

26 August 2012. Snow to the 300m level. This is not a common event;
maybe once a year or so, and never for very long. By midmorning
the snow had disappeared from the lower foothills.

24 June 2012. This explains why it was cold this morning! In fact, there'd been snow
on the mountain all week, but there was a big fresh dump overnight.

13 June 2012. An alternative Bridgewater Jerry at sunrise: thick fog but narrowly
confined to the river itself, and with no great height. The bridge was shrouded
as I drove across, except at the apex of the arch where you could see the sky.

7 May 2012. Pink mountain: sunrise and moon set.

7 May 2012, about 20 minutes after the photo above was taken. The sun has risen further so that the pink glow is gone, and the moon — the biggest of the year — is closer to setting.

4 May 2012. What mountain?! The first Bridgewater Jerry of autumn
(the Bridgewater Jerry is a particular fog that fills the Derwent valley,
although sometimes the mountain floats above it).

2 May 2012. A bit blurry, I'm afraid, but I love the way the clouds are cascading off the summit.

26 March 2012. Sunset over the northern extension of the Wellington range.
The main part of the mountain is to the left.

21 December 2011. Waking up to the mountain view after my first night in the new residence.

30 November 2011. Mountain, bridge and Venus, taken one evening in early
summer on a visit to Hobart before my actual move.
