Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

I vaguely recall having a memory once

I like conferences. I like catching up with people who are kind of my “once a year” friends: I get to see them at conferences but rarely between times.

The big frustration for me, however, is that sometimes I can’t remember their names/interests/where I last met them/etc. Today, for example, there were at least two people that I met (again) with whom I had apparently had quite intensive discussions about something important on some occasion in the past … and it took me quite a while to realise who they were and what we had discussed and where it was that we had met. I find this embarrassing.

These days I have just decided to be up front about this problem: I’ll ‘fess up and ask people to help me, but I still feel very awkward about it, and I think this is partly why I am quite shy. I really don’t like feeling so dozy and appearing so uninterested in people.

It’s not that I’m not interested … it’s just that I can’t remember who and what I’m supposed to be interested in. Sorry, everyone!
