Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

A dinner with friends

It has been a tough and exhausting week for various reasons too lengthy to elaborate here (but largely associated with the fact that the UTas maths education team were hosting an annual international conference and there were a few complications).

However, there have been positives as well. One of the good things about the conference was catching up with colleagues and friends, and it was particularly great to be able to host Anne and John, with whom I stayed when I was in Oxford on sabbatical nearly six years ago.

Tonight was the last night of their visit and the final full day of the conference (there are a few more sessions tomorrow morning and then it’s over). I caught up with Anne and John, plus Kaye (my friend, colleague and “boss” in Melbourne) for an enjoyable dinner down at Salamanca. It was nice to unwind a bit and spend time with such valued friends (hopefully it won’t be too long before I can catch up with them again, although I’m expecting that it’ll be longer before I see John and Anne).
