Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Midlands 2015-#6N

Early in my between-campus trips to Launceston, I happened to notice a couple of peculiar objects off the side of the road, tucked away in a copse of trees beyond the fence as I sped past. On the following trips I made a better mental note of their location, and promised myself that one day I would stop for a closer look. Today was that day, as the late afternoon sun cast dappled light across the location.

The objects appear to be small headstones, about 30-40cm tall (12-15 inches), with the hint of a small plot possibly marked in front of the second. They were about 20m in from the roadside fence and so I had to rely on my zoom lens to get a close look, but they display only the words “Ted” and “Peter” and no other information. They are rather prosaic names if the memorials mark the resting place of a couple of pets, but the markers are smaller and more unprepossessing than you might expect if for humans.

They remain a mystery.
