I know I stopped in Ross recently on another of my Midlands trips, but today I paid closer attention to two carved stones that face each other across the roadway on the bridge. These give the distances from Hobart to Launceston for the old road. Google maps puts the current journey at 200km; it is somewhat curious that these signs (and my interpretation of Roman numerals and conversion of miles to km) have the old highway some 13 km shorter.
So … it seems all those roadworks that have been holding me up over the last few years as I’ve been journeying back and forth have been building longer roads. And here was me thinking they might be shorter!
