Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Christmas 2014

It was a happy family gathering for Christmas. The long-running tradition of having it up at Fern Tree at the house of one of my Aunts continued, with the usual traditions of pudding and cheese straws and banana crush and curried eggs and coconut ice and lots of other stuff (not necessarily in that order … and, in a brilliant move, Aunty Mari had typed up all the recipes into booklets for each of us).

bChickKids1The weather was cool but not unpleasant, I somehow missed the game of cricket, my Adelaide brother Skyped in, Luke chapter 2 was read, Santa and his helper delivered presents to all and sundry, food was consumed, the billy-cart-thingy got a work out, and conversation and conviviality continued into the afternoon … and I took some photos of my awesome nieces and nephews (well, the ones that aren’t in Adelaide).bChickKids2+MumSistersIt’s always an enjoyable gathering, with time to catch up with family, and everyone pitching in to help with the preparation and tidying up.

I worked off a little of Christmas lunch by walking along to O’Grady’s Falls, where I stuck my tripod in the middle of the creek and took a few time exposures. It was good to go for a walk, smell the bush, and start to unwind a bit. It has been a busy year, and I need to regroup a little ready to face the next one.
