Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

The “Forget It” List

I have a “To Do” list itemising things to be done before I head off into the sunset, but at T – 44 hours some of the items have, of necessity, been transferred to the “Forget It” list. These include:

  • Tidying my office properly (this probably has the advantage of ensuring that no one is tempted to use it in my absence!)
  • Giving Mal more than the Readers’ Digest condensed version of what to do with the Maths 2 subject that he is going to be teaching in my absence (and unfortunately we realised that there are a few critical bits that aren’t actually written down, as they only exist in my head, which is a problem when someone else’s head needs to be involved!)
  • Completely categorising, cataloguing and cross-referencing my files at home (this is just as well, because I can’t help suspecting that something rather terminal happens if you ever get the chronicles of your life up-to-date with your actual life!)
  • Double-checking (and perhaps even first-checking) that my work laptop is all better after having its hard drive reconfigured (it’s been in the hands of the IT guys for 12 hours already and they still have it; I knew that this was going to be a bad idea three days out from leaving)
  • Explaining all the idiosyncracies of the house to the folks who are looking after it in my absence (mind you, some of the idiosyncracies I was going to leave undiscussed, such as why the Christmas tree is still up in July!)
  • Making sure that nothing on the “Forget It” list is actually supposed to be on the “Aaagghhh, I really DID HAVE to do that” list
  • Finding time to check that I have done all the most urgent things on what’s left of the “To Do” list (and, in the meantime, the few minutes I’ve spent blogging have caused another item or two to change lists!)
  • Enough sleep

The scariest thing of all is that I actually made a couple of written “To Do” lists, but I seem to have misplaced them. Everything is now being done from memory.

This is probably not a good plan!
