Unlike my Easter wanderings, which stayed on its lower slopes, today’s small Scout hike (which involved a small number of small Scouts, covering a relatively small distance since it was only a day hike) actually climbed to the top of Mt Direction.
The leader:Scout ratio was rather generous, as there were three adults and three Scouts in attendance. Here is one of the leaders making the most of a snack break on the way up.
Mt Direction certainly knows how to do uphills well, but the reward for reaching the top includes good views and an impressive summit cairn. It also includes a geocache which you can find if you remembered to find the right information on the way up (which I did this time, having forgotten at least once in the past). The Scouts enjoyed finding the cache, and a couple of others in the area.
The descent was easy, with a bit of cross country navigation for a challenge, and the Scouts had far too much energy left over.
It was an enjoyable outing, and it was nice to get to know these particular Scouts a little better.
