Yesterday’s north-bound trip was my last trip for the year associated with teaching/professional learning (there’s a faculty meeting still to come). As I had a non-work related commitment following my class in Launceston I was driving my own car, which meant I had a bit more freedom to take some detours.
One of the detours was nearly rather awkward. I’d decided to head north through Campania and Colebrook, to avoid some of the roadworks and maybe see some different sights for photographing. In pulling off the road prior to taking the shot below, I managed to head just a little too far leftwards into a deeper and muddier than expected ditch, and it took some manoeuvring, my low range gears, some wheel spinning, and some rather inelegant execution in order to extricate myself.
Further north I detoured in to Conara for a photo of the railway station, together with a nearby path overgrown with grasses.
I also stopped in Perth, where the South Esk River was very full (normally you can see the rocks that are causing the line of rapids in the photo below).
And there were ducks.
The next morning before class, I got up early and walked up the Gorge, which was also running very full (not surprisingly: it’s the same river). It wasn’t as full as I’ve seen it in the past, and nowhere near as full as it was during the floods in the middle of the year, but the river was certainly flowing into the swimming pool (as seen in the middle of the second photo below).
[I have set myself a challenge to take a photo or two on my north-bound work trips, so that I keep an eye out for interesting things instead of begrudging the trip.]
Wishing you a Merry Christ-mas and celebrations for this year and for family. This time of year a special celebration sweeps over the world and hearts turn to others and gifts are given, gifts of the heart and gifts from the tongue expressed and sometimes cannot be expressed sufficiently to those they have come to love. God the Father has in turn given us all something we cannot express with enough gratitude at the greatest gift given to mankind, which is Jesus Christ.
