I don’t know what it is about work at the moment, but it seems to have been a crazy first semester (and, scarily, I know second semester is going to be worse). There was, then, something ironic about receiving an email to tell me that I had accrued too much annual leave and that I needed to arrange to take some. My backlog of tasks seemed to suggest that if I took a day off I’d be doing work, which didn’t appeal to me a great deal!
So, I managed to find a day without any meetings, booked a day off, put the “To Do” list to the back of my mind, and took Mum and Dad for a drive down to Lonnavale, out the back of Judbury/Huonville.
Some of the old forestry roads were definitely in the “less travelled by” category, with moss growing across the surface, and small saplings and toadstool clusters encroaching the edges. Having crossed a river and stopped to take a photo, we were also somewhat dubious about the long-term prospects for the rather rotten wooden bridge we’d crossed.
We had ourselves a traditional egg-and-bacon pie picnic lunch at Russell River (thanks, Mum!), just by the little cliff and pool, at the site of at least one childhood picnic. The reflections and water effects were lovely (as was the pie!).
And then, all too soon, we were back into farmland, heading back to civilization … and the “To Do” list.
