Some days
The sky above
And ground beneath
Are company enough.

Comments: … although I must say that I do like a vista-filled horizon thrown in for good measure as well, of course … except that the corresponding words wouldn’t have fitted into the poem particularly comfortably! I enjoy the company of friends and believe I am a moderately sociable person, but I am also comfortable if I happen to be the only person about. And sometimes I really enjoy being in the outdoors on my own (see my account of a day’s walk on Mt Kosciuszko). There’s something simultaneously centring and expanding about having some time with your own thoughts, while exerting yourself a little, in a beautiful place.
