Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

East coast drive

One of the nice things about the Easter break is that there’s a little extra time to get out and about. Saturday’s weather forecast was promising so I took the APs for a drive out to the East Coast. We didn’t really have any definite plans for a destination, but just went where whim and fancy took us. We found a lovely coastal corner at Mayfield Jetty where the views of the coast were beautiful.

We then continued up the coast to Swansea and inland to visit Lost Falls which, in the near absence of water, were indeed somewhat lost … although the valley into which the teeny trickle tumbled was quite spectacular. However, I was even more intrigued by the nearby smooth dolerite outcrops, which gave lovely views out to the coast, and which had the remnants of small rocky cairns. We added an inuksuk* to the collection (rebuilding one that the APs had built on an earlier visit a few months ago).

All in all, an enjoyable relaxing day (and, as it happens there was a cache or three, but they were not pre-planned; rather they were serendipitous consequences of the fact that people tend to hide them in interesting places and I could get internet access to check if any were nearby).

* An inuksuk is an Inuit stone cairn; apparently the human-shaped ones are known as inunnguaq.
