For the last ten months or so I have been a two car family, which is just a tad ridiculous given the size of the “family” and my capacity to drive two vehicles at once. Last year, when I was deciding to get a new car, I just ran out of time to do anything about it in Victoria before moving to Tassie. Thus it was that my old car came to Tassie, and when I bought my new car I declined the dealer trade in (it wasn’t a huge offer), leaving me with a Victorian-registered vehicle. In March one of my Victorian friends expressed interest in buying it, but it has been such a flat out year that it has taken me until now to (a) find a time to take it back and (b) get it ready so that I am happy to pass it on.
I’ve had the car — a 1999/2000 model Subaru Forester — for about 8 years, and it has served me well (apart from the occasional age-related hiccup!) as it travelled some 100,000km. It has carried Scouts, ferried Garrulous Grandmothers, tackled moderately challenging terrain, facilitated the pursuit of geocaches, towed trailers, carted junk, explored roads less travelled, and generally been a trusty chariot that I have enjoyed owning.
It is now cleaner than it has been since I bought it, and it is about to head across the briny sea for its new owner, in whose hands it may continue some of its previous pastimes, including carrying Scouts.
May its life as a trusty chariot be a long and reliable one.
I saw you driving it the other day (out of the service station). Always a sad moment when you have to part with such a friend. If you suffer withdrawal symptoms from car detailing I know where you can come to satisfying the craving!
I actually decided to contribute to the national economy and employment figures by getting someone to do the detailing for me. I just ran out of time to do it myself, and I couldn’t have done as good a job anyway.
