Last night the weather was decidedly unpleasant outside* and the morning had a very chilly feel to it when I woke up. An initial glance out the window revealed little, since there were clouds on the lower foothills. A closer inspection of the hills upstream (to the right of the photo) revealed a low and rather unexpected patch of white where white is rarely seen.
Eventually some of the clouds lifted and the extent of the overnight wintry activity was revealed: snow down to the 300m level. This only happens once a year or so (I guess), and it made a spectacular sight. There’s even snow on Knocklofty (the hill above the houses on the left end of the photo).
By midmorning, the snow on the lower slopes had melted, but there was still plenty of snow up higher, and the cool temperature throughout the day was a legacy that everyone noticed.
The full moods of the Mountain collection is here, and includes a bigger version of the photo.
* Yes, I know: as opposed to what the weather was doing inside!
