It has become a family tradition to get together for dinner on Sunday night if you’re in the vicinity and free. Tonight it was here at Mum and Dad’s place (it alternates between here and Colin and Wendy’s place), and it’s always fun and slightly chaotic with kids (and adults) everywhere. Tonight Mum (grandma) had four children on or round her lap as she tried to read them a story from a book that she couldn’t see because there were too many heads in the way. There were balloons everywhere because the old ones were deflating and so new ones were required (for the grand total of 6 fresh ones, plus 6 shrunken wrinkled blobs). The new ones required decorating, of course, and each of the triplets wanted to me to draw a monster on theirs. Daniel decided that the curly hair made his monster look like a girl, so I added a beard which solved that problem; Emily decided that four arms on her monster was not enough, so I added two more; and Laura’s wiggly monster looked like a jack-in-the-box, which meant that I was saved the hassle of drawing legs since drawing a box sufficed to make her happy. Brianna and I played balloon volleyball with two balloons, one fresh and one deflated (although I was trying to do this without having to move from my comfy position in the beanbag); Daniel wanted me to help design a train track layout which, of course, couldn’t take up too much of the lounge room (this necessitated getting out of the beanbag); and Morgan and Thomas wanted to teach me a new game on the Palm (by this time I think the beanbag had been moved out of the way completely, since the place was entirely too crowded!).
It was very quiet when they’d gone home!
