Occasionally in this blog I have alluded to the “Friday morning tea” tradition; as recounted elsewhere, Michael Bulmer started it in the Maths Department at UTas heading on for 20 years ago, and then I introduced it to the then Department of Science and Mathematics Education at the University of Melbourne over 13 years ago. When I moved back to UTas at the beginning of this year I was in the Faculty of Education, and they needed to be — and seem quite happy to have been — introduced to the Friday morning tea tradition as well.
I guess each person has a turn to be one of two providers every couple of months. About once a year, though, I decide to do something a little different, and I bring in the ingredients and necessary accoutrements to cook pancakes*, live.
Much to my relief, running the two electric frypans didn’t blow the fuse, and the pancakes were well-received by the hungry hordes. Live pancakes and cheesecakes on hiking trips are my two culinary specialties.
* They’re probably more like crepes than the thick pancakes some might know.
I wonder what it was about this Friday that encouraged pancakes. The rovers were apparently making pancakes Friday night also. I’m feeling a bit left out :)!
End of financial year pancakes. Don’t you know this famous tradition?! 😉
