Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Car window stickers

You’ve probably seen them around lately, slapped onto the rear windows of cars: sets of white stick-figure people (and pets) in various poses or engaged in characteristic activities that are supposed to represent the car owner’s family.

As a single person with no pets this trend wasn’t working for me … which seems to be true of me and most trends that come along, when it comes right down to it! I should point out that I have a perfectly good extended family who could probably be represented in such a way, but they don’t often travel in my car, and this kind of seemed a cop out.

Now the fact of the matter is that I don’t really want to put a bunch of stickers on my rear window … but if I did, what could I do?

So, at right, is my personalised rear-window “family” sticker.

Then it occurred to me that there is a bunch of people who have travelled in my car on a regular basis, who are kind of like family.

My Scouts.

So, here they are, arranged in accordance with the trend convention: from one side of the back windscreen to the other (and then some, most likely!)

Since you can’t really see that (and I apologise to those with narrow monitors), here is a close up, arranged less conventionally.

And even though there are many more Scouts and activities that could be depicted, I have spent far too long mucking around with my new drawing tablet, so I’m outta here.

  • Looks like you are having great fun both in scouts and with you new technology! It made me smile. Thanks. C.

You got a drawing tablet? Aren’t they awesome? Love the drawings! Did you find yourself a suitable scout troop to drive around yet?

    • Helen

Yes, to the drawing tablet. Tablets would be more awesome if I could actually draw! But I’ll get better at it I hope … and it’s actually the mastering of Illustrator that is my main issue.

And the Scout troop is looking promising (in fact I had damp kids in the car on my first night after we went kayaking and rowing in a nearby bay), but if I go with this one I’ll have to add kayaks, rowing dinghies, and sailing to the illustrations collection.

I love them … they’re sooooo creative and look so much better than the other boring one LOL I love the variety 😀

  • Those are awesome. (Doug is really good at stick figures. I should have him do something.)

  • Looks fantastic!! And I noticed your new cacheMobile is beginning to look a bit more ‘lived in’.

    • Helen

The cacheMobile is now very lived in. Not only have I added dust to pretty much everywhere, but it now has a hurtie on the outside which was entirely my fault. 🙁
