Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Christmas card history 1986 to 2010

In response to a comment made in response to my post about the creation of my 2010 Christmas card — and because I want to digitise some of my paper archives — I decided that one of my summer projects would be to document electronically my past Christmas cards. In the process of going through my files I discovered that the tradition dates back to 1985 (not quite as early as I had thought), which makes this year’s card the 26th. That’s more than half my life (though how much more I’m not saying!). Each of the finished cards — and at least some of the original artwork — are neatly collected in a couple of sketchbooks, which just goes to show that, despite the evidence of my office, there are some aspects of my life that are surprisingly well organised (and this is not the only one, I protest defensively!).

Anyway, here they all are, together with some information about their origins and the creation process. (The pages are linked to each other, so you don’t have to come back here to get to the next subset.)

I’m loving that you are recording these digitally. We always look forward to the ‘Chick cards’ to see how you have interpreted the birth of the Savior each year. I noticed your comment page for the bus shelter was closed, so I thought I’d mention here how much I enjoyed visiting there when we went for a gentle walk with your parents on our 50th birthday pilgrimage last year.

Wow, I feel so honoured to be one of the recipients of the 2012 Christmas Card. I love it !!! Well really I love them all, but I specifically love the 1998 and the 2008 cards, oh to have known Helen at that time. But hey….. I now know Helen and I am so pleased she is singing with us (Loose Canon) and I am going to make sure she stays for ever and ever (was that perhaps a phrase from Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus), so that I can get a fabulous Helen Christmas card every year.
Thank you dear Helen, I really love the 2012 Christmas Card.
Christmas Greetings and best wishes for 2013 where I do have to tell you about my Math Teacher at school, a very sad tale indeed.
    Ulla xx
