Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Absent-minded Associate Professor

I’m not entirely sure to what extent or for how long I’ve aspired to reach the lofty goals of the title of this post, but I can say that the first part was achieved quickly and easily: I have been vague for longer than I can remember.

The second part has just been attained as well, so I’m pretty happy. The extra nice thing is that my friend Robyn achieved it too (although there was a period yesterday when neither of us knew whether or not the other had, and both felt a little awkward about asking … just in case the other hadn’t!).

So now* I’m an “AssPro”, as it’s commonly described in colloquial conversation … which sounds like something for headaches or some donkey who insists on being paid. Fortunately the written abbreviation is usually something like AssocProf, which is less ambiguous but more unpronounceable.

*Well, on January 1, technically.
