Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Mind vs body

We had a Scout camp scheduled for this weekend, and despite the fact that it had become very chilly and that every time I looked outside the rain was bucketing down (the rain radar was even worse than the image shown at right) I was still intending that we would go. We were packed, the food was organised, and even the jockey wheel on the trailer (which had disintegrated last night) had been repaired thanks to one of our other leaders.

So, I was rarin’ to go.

Well, kind of. I was ignoring the list of things that need to get done in the next week or so, and I was ignoring the fact that I was a tad on the weary side.

But my mind was made up: we were going anyway.

Just as I started leaving work, however, my body had other ideas about the whole plan. There was a tickle in my throat that became a cough, and then I started getting feverish. Yep: my stock standard cold onset symptoms.

Several phone calls later and we are not going to Scout camp this weekend. It can be cold and wet without me, and I shall be free to wallow in mild misery in my nice comfy warm bed.

  • Ick! I hope it passes quickly.

If you didn’t have a cold now, you surely would have had a worse one AFTER the camp! Soldiering on in the face of germs only makes the whole thing worse and last longer. Rest up, relax and read something nice and non-mathematical. Suggest chocolate may help too! Get better soon.

Just as well I didn’t know you had a camp scheduled as only three minutes ago I heard what conditions were like in Melbourne, and was thinking, “Not camping weather!” At least the sun is shining in Paradise, despite snow on the mountain and icy winds. The patriarch is making some soup; wish we could send you some. Get well very soon!
