Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

A looooong day, mostly filled with marking. I have a love-hate relationship with assignments: it’s always interesting to see what students are thinking, but the sheer volume of assignments to be marked quickly palls.

I can’t work out to what extent I am responsible for the fact that there seemed to be a few more problems than usual this year … although I don’t think I can be held accountable for the fact that one of my students interviewed a 7-year-old despite my explicit instruction to choose a child from Grades 4 to 6. Sigh.

Anyway, I must stop blathering as I long ago turned into a pumpkin. The photos are here. Don’t get too excited.

Roll on June 12: it’s a Saturday.

Re picture 7: It is just a few days since I saw your hand in an identical position, except that you were sound asleep in a beanbag!

You poor thing! I’ll have to mark assignments this year for the first time – I’ve only been involved in the moderation up to now. Only about 12 students – and they’re postgrads – but experience shows that doesn’t mean they can read instructions, follow instructions, spell, punctuate or string a logical sentence together! It all brings out my inner authoritarian pedant. We’ve changed the assignment tasks this year too – and I won’t go into the angst that creating criterion-based assessment rubrics for them is creating…

I really enjoyed looking at your photographic record of your day (it was obviously more fun for me than it was for you).
But you’ve managed to make an unlikely topic interesting reading and inspired me to take photos of things that wouldn’t normally get recorded.
