Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

Hidden gems

blogkimberleyspringsOne of the things I like about geocaching is that it takes me to places I’ve never been, even in areas I thought I knew. I came back to Tassie this weekend, on the ferry, and drove down to Hobart from Devonport. Of course I couldn’t waste an opportunity to find some caches, and one of them involved a little detour from the main road to a tiny ten-house town called Kimberley. I didn’t know there were warm springs here, but the person hiding the cache did. Thus it was that I was taken to a placid pool of tepid water steaming in the cold of a frosty morning, with the sand at the bottom gently heaving and bubbling as the water came through. It was not especially spectacular, I admit, but peaceful and pretty and worth the detour.
