Dramatis persona*

helenhead Helen Chick

I've always wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm a female, LDS/Mormon, Scout leading, geocaching, piano-playing, bicycling, mathematics educator with a PhD in maths ... and I VOTE"!

I think this makes me a minority group of cardinality 1!

* Since there's only one of me and "personae" is plural (I think), I've gone with dramatis persona.

12 of 12, October 2019 – Charlotte Cove Scout camp

A messy week and some problems with one of our Scout boat trailers meant that this camp did not get off to quite the start we’d intended, but eventually we got most people and most things to where they needed to be, and set up tents for the first night in readiness for the weekend’s activities. On Saturday, which happened to be the 12th and thus needs 12 photos*, there was exploring (which seemed to involve mostly the girls) …

and fishing (which seemed to involve mostly the boys … and very few fish) …

in the very peaceful Charlotte Cove not far from Cygnet.

The jetty wasn’t the exclusive domain of the boys, as the girls managed to locate a seahorse drifting in amongst the seaweed beneath the jetty.

We took a couple of groups of Scouts for an extended kayak paddle, exploring the coast and getting one group across to nearby Garden Island before returning to the campsite.

In the evening the kids did a little cooking … and then a little more exploring and fishing.

Our second day was more of the same, except that this time the girls tried fishing, and were also game to brave the somewhat chilly waters.

[I’ve been doing “12 of 12” since 2009, taking 12 photos — artistic, historical, mundane — on the 12th of each month*. This is episode 122.]

* If you count carefully, you’ll find 13 photos for the 12th. When I started doing this blog entry I’d forgotten it was the 12th, and I only selected 7 photos, and so when I realised I needed a few more I accidentally included one extra and I couldn’t be bothered figuring out which one to omit.
