- Maths still matters to me. A lot.*
- Students should be involved in doing maths and being mathematical.
- So should teachers.
- Maths is the point of maths lessons.**
- I need to think more about what shifts I want my students to make.
- I need to think more about the shifts I want the teachers I work with to know about for their students.
- I always need to ask myself “what is the point of what I am trying to do here?”
- I need to think about how to help those I teach see the general from the particular, and what role examples play.
- I need to maintain and build my joie de mathématiques.
* Grammar matters to me too … but not when dramatic effect is required!
** “Maths” is so much more than just a bunch of procedures and rules, and students are entitled to experience more than this. In fact, if procedures and rules is all they see then they are not experiencing mathematics at all.
