A magic meal on the mountain - Lady Lake - 25 February

A geocaching event was all the lure I needed to visit a lovely part of Tasmania.

Lady Lake Hut.

The view from the hut: two cachers arriving along the boggy track.

Some of the youngsters heading off towards the nearby lake.

Alpine bog: the red flowering plants are "mountain rocket", and there's sphagnum moss growing in amongst the grass tussocks. The mountains of the Great Western Tiers are in the background.

Lady Lake. Normally it wouldn't be warm enough for swimming but today it was very pleasant (although I confess I stayed dry because I wanted to explore a little further afield and I had only limited time).

Some of the cachers who made the journey up the hill.

Three other cachers joined me for a cross-country walk to a nearby cache. This required a little bit of "negotiating" over some rough terrain.

At the top of the hill, the scrubby bushes and small trees and the boulder fields gave way to cushion plants and stunted shrubs, and much easier walking.
