Lake Waikaremoana Hike, Day 2

Day 2 dawned overcast but still warm, but by the time we had reached Marauiti Hut it was thinking about rain,
a thought it acted upon soon thereafter.

On an overcast day you can't see forever ...
and you don't take as many photos either

\

With the overcast conditions the colour goes out of the day, as a portent of rain in the afternoon.

Tree fern overlooking a subdued lake.

Victoria and Lynn heading along the muddy track.

Crossing another suspension bridge.

A Tolkeinesque section of the track.
New Zealand would be a great place to film Lord of the Rings! :-)
(In fact, to our surprise and bemusement there were some people walking along the
track in bare feet; Peter referred to them as "hobbits"!)

More flora (I love temperate rainforests)

Small ferns growing under the larger ferns along the track. I love the star-shaped spread of the fronds. In amongst the spreading fronds you may be able to make out some vertical fronds. For some ferns (and I can't remember if it applies to this particular one) these are the fronds that are fertile with spores, ferns not having any flowers for reproduction.
