Wilson's Promontory Lighthouse Trip (25-26 January 2011)

The lighthouse at South East Point on Wilson's Promontory offers overnight accommodation in some of the old lighthouse
keepers' cottages. It's a 20km walk to get there (and another 20km to get back!), but at least you don't have to carry a tent!

Lush green bush near the Roaring Meg campsite. This area was burnt badly by bushfires
in 2005 and it is amazing to see the new growth.

View of Tasmania: Rodondo Island, 10km or so offshore, is actually part of Tasmania; of course the rest of Tassie is much further south ... like, over 150km away.

Silhouetted kangaroo near the lighthouse buildings.

The South-East Point Lighthouse.

Lighthouse keepers' house at dusk.

Burnt tree illuminated by camera flash (the 2005 fire got very close to the lighthouse)

Sunrise on Australia Day, from the lighthouse.

Leaf and moss on a granite boulder.

Looking back to the lighthouse from the east coast track. Many container ships head along this section of coastline, and there are at least 8 navigation lights to warn of the coast and islands.

Sky, sea and sunlit granite boulder.

Waterloo Bay.

Little shell on the coarse granite sand of Waterloo Bay.

Burnt tea-tree (or melaleuca?) skeletons on the Waterloo Bay walking track.
