West Coast (31 December 2010)

Having visited an old friend on the NW coast, my parents and I stayed in Burnie, enjoyed an evening out at Table Cape,
and, next day, headed back to Hobart via Tasmania's rugged West Coast.

Evening sun on Table Cape lighthouse.

Sunlit gum trees on the banks of the Inglis River, Wynyard.

Rippling water, Lake Mackintosh.

Fishermen on the calm waters of Lake Mackintosh.

Reflections, Lake Mackintosh.

Rocky shore of Lake Mackintosh.

Sky and water, Lake Mackintosh.

Lake Burbury. (Most of the big lakes on the West Coast are the results of
building dams to produce hydro-electricity. The loss of the underlying
wilderness bothers me a little, but I will admit that there is a beauty to these lakes.)

Tasmanian Christmas bells (Blandfordia punicea). This is a Tasmanian endemic
that is not especially common but is found on the west coast. We spotted a
few specimens as we drove; this one was right beside the road.
Some of the flowers are a bit past their prime.

Small tarn, Tasmanian moor land (mostly "button grass") and mountains.
