Moors above Todmorden (24 October 2009)

Caveat

The weather was terrible when we set off so I left the good camera in the car. The little camera did okay ... but when the weather had improved I really wished I had the other one with me.

View from Nick and Mike's place across the Calder valley at Todmorden.

Field and tree on our way up to the tops above Walsden.

Moors above Walsden.

Mike getting his feet wet (it was rather boggy underfoot).

Grey wet weather coming in over the moors.

Tiny stone bridge: it's less than a metre wide. We're not sure why it's here, although it's possible that the path is part of an old wool-pack route, where horses took wool across the moors to the mills in the valleys below.

Puddles and light effects on the Pennine Way.

Stone walls, creek, and steep fields just below the tops.

Bridge and houses beside Rochdale Canal, Walsden. The lower storey windows are at ground level, which means that the associated rooms are below the level of the canal. These houses are occupied, which makes it really strange to be walking so close past kitchen windows.

Valley and Rochdale Canal at Walsden. We couldn't work out the purpose of the aqueduct, although we had some silly hypotheses.
